Knightstown Panthers watched the game slip away in the 7th and couldn’t recover in a 9-2 loss to Whiteland on Wednesday.
Knightstown got things going in the 1st inning when a failed pickoff attempt at 3rd Base scored Kelton Weaver but Whiteland answered back with 4 runs in the 2nd. The Panthers remained solid on the mound with Bryce Gorman and on defense for the next 3 innings shutting down Whiteland high power offense. Both teams plated another run in the 5th inning keeping the game in close reach for the Panthers at 5-2 while each in the 6th zeros were hung up on the scoreboard. In the 7th, Whiteland bats caught fire with a lead off Double off Dalton Scott, then 2 HBP, single and double down right field line, the Warriors flexed their muscle again to the Panthers.
Whiteland wins the season series 2-0 and leads overall series 3-0-1.
Gorman took the loss for Knightstown Panthers. He went four innings, allowing four runs on three hits and walking one. Weaver came in for relief for the 5th and 6th and continues to compete at a high level. Scott and Brock Loveall made his 1st appearance in relief.
Roy pitched Whiteland to victory. He went two and a third innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out one. Denham and Crowley entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Kelton Weaver, Mason Young, Jace Wilkerson, and Michael Roberson all had one hit to lead Knightstown Panthers.
