On Tuesday, Nov. 20, the Panther Wrestlers took on the Union County Patriots and the Connersville Spartans at Connersville High School and came away with two victories to open their season. In the first match versus the Spartans, the team came away with a decisive 45-26 win. 113lb senior David Peck, 138lb junior Nick Lawson, 152lb junior Landon Carmichael, and 220lb junior Stump Medlin all picked up pins and 182lb sophomore Liam Orcutt picked up a victory by decision in the varsity competition. After receiving a varsity forfeit at 132lbs, junior Justin Lane picked up a pin in a junior varsity competition and sophomore 182lb Ben Newby also picked up a JV pin.
In the second competition of the evening, the Panthers took on Union County and continued their streak with a solid 54-24 victory. 170lb Sophomore Mason Muncy picked up the first win of the evening for Panthers with a pin followed by pins from L. Orcutt, 195lb junior Aiden Orcutt, and 120lb freshman Luke Thomas to round out the evening. In similar form, Lane received a varsity forfeit and had a pin in JV action.
Head Coach Robbie Hadley was thrilled with his team’s first performance. “I was very happy with the wrestling overall,” Hadley said. “We had some mistakes and there is always room for improvement, but it was great to come out against solid opponents and two victories.”
The Panthers will next see action at the New Castle Invitational at New Castle High School with wrestling starting at 9am.
