On Saturday, Dec 8, the Knightstown Panther wrestlers had their home opener at the Panther Invitational. The team placed 3rd in the tournament and 2nd in the county tournament, going 3-1 on the day. Their only loss came from the number 3 ranked Shenandoah Raiders with a final score of 30-48. This brings their season record to 6-5.
The team produced four county champions in the tournament. 113lb senior David Peck, 120lb junior Jared Richardson, 138lb junior Nick Walsh, and170lb Mason Muncy were all undefeated on the day winning their weight classes.
For other individual performances, 132lb junior Justin Lane, 152lb junior Landon Carmichael, 182lb sophomore Liam Orcutt, 195lb junior Aiden Orcutt, 220lb sophomore Skylar Medlin, and 285lb sophomore Sam Thomas all matched the teams performance of 3-1. Other wrestlers had success on the day including 126lb freshman Luke Thomas picking up two wins and 145lb junior Nick Lawson winning one.
Head Wrestling Coach Robbie Hadley was pleased with the improvement he saw in his team. “Although we were gunning for the county championship, I’m still happy with the way our wrestlers competed today,” Hadley said. “Shenandoah is an exceptionally talented team and competing well against them shows us that we are moving in the right direction.”
The team is back in action on Dec. 15 at the Wapahani Raider Rumble in Selma, IN. The first match is scheduled to start at 9am.
