Knightstown & Tri have joined forces this year to provide a playing season for middle school tennis players. Tri coach Paige Froman and I felt the most important issue was to provide a playing opportunity for students seeking to play later in high school. Getting a racket in their hand and teaching them the fundamentals of tennis prior to their freshman year is of the utmost importance for success at the HS level. Tennis is a sport that takes time to master and that is evidenced in Knightstown winning Sectionals the past 2 years after a 20+ year drought at that level of play. Those sectional winners were the players from our very first middle school team that we started in 2014.
With Ktown and Tri both facing a year of not having enough players for a team, we decided to play together so the kids could have a tennis season. It has worked out well, as Tri has almost all boys and Ktown has almost all girls.
Our first match at Morristown was a good start to the season with wins coming from:
#2 singles Isaiah Dewitt (Tri) 8-4
#3 single Peyton McDaniel (K) 8-4
#1doubles Ari Cady/Evie Berrier (K) 6-4
#2 doubles Jacob Specht/Amber Howell (K) 6-1
#4 doubles Brook Barker/Peyton McDaniel (K) 4-0
