The Panther Wrestling team competed in the IHSAA Sectional at Tri High School on Saturday. They were able to send 5 wrestlers on to the next week of the state championship series.
At 106 pounds, Freshman Noah Cook bounced back from a semi-final loss to take third place overall. His finish moves him on to face an opponent from the Franklin County Sectional next weekend.
Senior Jared Richardson, wrestling at 126 lbs also recovered from a semi-final loss by winning his consolation match, securing his Regional bid. Jared took 4th place and will prepare for another week of competition.
Nick Walsh, a 138 lb senior, dominated his first two opponents by pin to advance to the finals match. Using an aggressive style against an opponent with only one prior loss, Nick was able to secure a 11-7 win and a favorable draw next week.
At 182 pounds, Senior Aiden Orcutt was dominant during his day. Aiden wrestled a total of 1 minute 35 seconds, by pinning his three opponents, including his finals opponent. He captured first place and his third Regional Qualification.
Lastly, at 195 pounds, Junior Liam Orcutt took second place overall. Liam advanced to the finals by tech fall, then a pin. In the Finals match he wrestled against a nationally ranked opponent and lost, but still gained valuable team points and a good seed for the following week.
