Boys Varsity Tennis · Panther tennis sweeps Shenandoah 5-0 in Home opener

The Panthers tennis team came out Tuesday in their season opener looking to settle an old score with rival Shenandoah. Last year, the Raiders handed the Panthers their only regular season loss of the season.  That loss jolted the Panthers into an 18 match regular season winning streak.  Tonight, Knightstown played a great match sweeping every court on both Varsity and JV.

AJ Dalton got the Panthers started on the #1 Singles Court by winning a marathon 2 1/2 hour match in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. Garrett Dalton fired shots all night at #2 Singles winning 6-1, 6-2.  Freshman Kyle Johnson began his high school tennis career with a Varsity start at #3 Singles, with a great win at 6-2, 6-2.

Seniors Ethan Yoder and Treavor Cook dominated at #1 Doubles winning 6-1, 6-0.  Not to be outdone, Alex Cook and Dylan Chandler followed at #2 Doubles with an identical win at 6-1, 6-0.   The Panther team put in a ton of work all summer on doubles court positioning and strategy and it clearly paid off, only losing 2 games tonight while winning 24.

JV put in an equally impressive night, winning every court and completing the sweep.  Junior Cooper Davis got the rally started winning #1 Singles JV 8-1,  followed by Brady Howell at #2 Singles JV, winning 8-4.  Newcomer Jonathon Brading won his first ever match comfortably at #3 Singles JV 8-1.   Both JV doubles courts wrapped up victories with Connor Keith and Connor Pyle upending the Raiders 8-2, while Austin Campton and Aiden Richardson finished the match with a victory at 8-5.

The Panther tennis team is back in action at home Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 PM against TEC conference opponent Tri High.
