Game Recap

In a highly anticipated rivalry game for both teams Tri High escaped with the victory 6-5 in the bottom of the 7th inning. Vivian Goodpaster jumped on the first pitch for a line drive single to lead off the game, and Georgee Lawhorne followed it up with a single in a 10 pitch at bat. Sammi Eaks came up and laced a shot to deep centerfield that Bailey Coffman tracked to perfection for the 1st out. It would be one of many well tracked balls for Coffman during the game. Jess Butler hit into a fielders choice and the throw on the double play was errant scoring Goodpaster for the first run of the game. Lawhorne shut the Titans down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 1st to retain the 1-0 lead. Carmen Cleek led off the 2nd with a double and Kiley Breece bunted her to 3rd base. Courtney Carlton hit a double off the fence to score Cleek. Kaitlyn Jackson bunted her to 3rd base and Goodpaster busted out another single to make it 3-0 Panthers. Tri answered with 1 run in the 2nd after a walk to Kristen Falck and a single by Kaley Harrison. After the Panthers were shut down in the 3rd inning the Titans scored 2 led by a walk to Destiny Taylor, a double by Lauren Bouslog and a Panther error. The pitchers, Lawhorne and Peyton Moore both shut down the offense’s for the next 2 innings to keep it 3-3 until the Titans manufactured a run in the 6th inning with singles by Kierstyn Conyers and Brienna Reece and sacrifice bunt in between by Harrison. With the Titans up 4-3 the Lady Panthers weren’t done as Goodpaster collected her 3rd hit of the game to lead off the 7th inning. Lawhorne hit into a fielders choice and Eaks hit a bloop single, followed by Butler hitting a deep fly ball to Right Center field that the Right and Center fielders nearly collided on to knock in Lawhorne. Robyn Clark laid down a bunt to score Butler to give Knightstown a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th inning. After walks to Taylor and Moore, Bouslog hit into a fielders choice. Falck came up and smoked the first pitch to left field to tie the game. With the game tied and the infield in, Conyers hit a blooper over 1st base that Jackson made a great track to get to it, but just couldn’t quite pull it in, as Bouslog came in to win the game for Tri High. It was a good game between 2 good teams, and both of us needed a game like that to help prepare our teams for the Big picture, which is the State Tournament. We’ve been fortunate to win this game the last 4 years, and the ball just bounced Tri High’s way this time. It was probably meant to be, being the last game probably ever played on the old field in Lewisville park, as the Titans will have access to a brand new turf field soon. Both defenses made some exceptional plays, none better than Falck in Right Field after Lawhorne laced a line drive her way and she fired it home perfectly to get Trinidie Newby in a bang bang play to end the 4th inning. Goodpaster and Butler both had 3 hits, Carlton and Lawhorne had 2 apiece. Cleek only had 1 hit in the book, but made Moore earn her money every at bat as she battled pitch after pitch all night. The Panthers fell to 12-5 and will host Anderson Prep Tuesday.
