Game Recap

The Lady Panthers were playing with heavy hearts for the first time since the sudden tragedy of their classmate, Dylan Hiner. Dylan was also the brother of Panther assistant coach, Tosha Smith. Before the game the Hagerstown team presented the girls with a signed softball in Dylan’s memory, and the Lady Panthers all had orange bows in their hair with #15 and DH on them. There was still a softball game to play and the Panthers and Tigers shut each other out in the 1st inning, ending with Kaitlyn Jackson making a diving catch in left field. In the 2nd inning Jess Butler led off with a single, and was moved to 2nd base on a SAC bunt by Robyn Clark. After Carmen Cleek drew a walk Kiley Breece hit a deep ball to left field that the Left fielder misplayed allowing the Panthers to score 2 runs. Kaitlyn Jackson singled, followed by Vivian Goodpaster being hit by a pitch to load the bases. Georgee Lawhorne hit a bloop hit to Right field that drove in 2 runs. As she raced to 2nd base the ball was thrown away to score 2 more and give the Panthers a 6-0 lead. Courtney Carlton pitched a solid game, allowing only 2 hits, and heading a double play in the 4th inning to get out of a jam. The Panthers scored 4 more runs in that 4th inning led by hits by Sammi Eaks, Butler, Goodpaster, and Jackson. Lawhorne came in to pitch in the 5th to close the door on the victory 10-0. Both teams joined together at the pitchers circle for a prayer for Dylan Hiner and his family, led by Senior Panther, Sammi Eaks. I’m So proud of the girls, battling through this adversity, and becoming even a stronger, cohesive family through it. The rest of our season is dedicated to Dylan, Tosha, and the whole family!
