Game Recap

The Lady Panthers withstood a late Monroe Central rally to sneak out a win 9-8 on the road. The Panthers struck first with 4 runs to lead off the game Georgee Lawhorne led off getting hit in the head the 2nd pitch of the game. Vivian Goodpaster moved her over with a Sacrifice fly. Back to back bunt singles by Jess Butler and Robyn Clark led to the first run of the game. After a walk to Sammi Eaks, Carmen Cleek had a Sacrifice Fly to score Butler. Then Courtney Carlton hit a deep blast to the CF fence to plate Clark and Eaks to take a 4-0 lead to open up the game. In the bottom the 1st inning Monroe Central got their first 2 batters on 1st and 2nd base. A line drive to 2nd baseman Kaitlyn Jackson led to a very rare 4-6-3 Triple Play to end the inning. In the 2nd inning the Panthers struck for 3 more runs after Kiley Breece walked, Jackson laid down a Sacrifice bunt, followed by a walk to Lawhorne and a Double by Goodpaster. Monroe Central answered with a run in the 2nd and 3 runs in the 3rd to make a 8-4 Panther lead after 3 innings. In the top of the 5th inning, Carlton reached base on an error. Breece advanced her with a bunt and Jackson laced a hit up the middle to give the Panthers their 9th and final run of the game. With the Panthers up 9-4 after 5 1/2 innings Monroe Central led off the bottom of the 5th with a single. The next batter smoked a ball up the middle that Lawhorne went to her knees and stabbed, threw it to 2nd for the force out and Cleek fired over to Butler for the 1-6-3 double play. “Georgee may not be the fastest throwing Pitcher around, but there are few Pitchers that can field the position like she can”. After going scoreless the last 2 innings the Panthers had to survive a last inning rally by Monroe Central to escape with a 9-8 victory. The Panthers move to 3-0 on the season and they face some stern competition this week beginning with Northeastern and Eastern Hancock Monday and Tuesday.
