Game Recap

The Lady Panthers survived a hard fought battle vs Tri High on Senior Night. It was a pitchers duel between 2 Seniors, Maddie Lyall for Knightstown and Abbi Coffman for the Titans for 3 innings until the Panthers finally got something going. Sammi Eaks reached base on a hard hit ball to SS that wasn’t fielded clean and Ryan Johnson moved her with a Sacrifice bunt. Sidney Hastings reached 1st on an infield single. Kiley Breece came into run for Hastings and stole 2b, then Vivian Goodpaster laced a double down the left field line to score 2 runs. After holding the Titans again in the 4th, Jess Butler earned a walk followed by a double by Carmen Cleek. A bunt by Eaks scored Butler after a throwing error. Sidney Hastings hit a 2 RBI double to make it 5-0 Panthers. In the 5th Tri plated 2 runs when Destiny Taylor doubled, and Makenzie Peggs reached base on an error and a bunt and fielders choice left the score 5-2 after the Titans relief pitcher Peyton Moore came in to pitch and held the Panthers scoreless even though Georgee Lawhorne led off with a double. Knightstown couldn’t manufacture a run. Tri scored another run in the 6th inning and the inning ended with Lyall being line drives on the ankle but Haley Fowler was able to still make the play at 1st base. The score was 5-3 in the top of the 7th when Fowler was called on to pitch for the Panthers. Peggs leads off with her 3rd hit of the game and scored on Moores double to make it a one run game. Moore, the tying run moved to 3b on Kierston Falcks ground out to 1st base. The game ended in dramatic fashion as Tri’s Kate Conyers hit a fly ball between 1st base and Right field that Senior Ryan Johnson made a superb diving catch to seal the victory. Was a great ballgame between two very competitive teams! I’m so proud of our Senior class, as all of them did something special to contribute to winning their Senior Recognition day game.
